Remove countersunk bolt (2) while countering the steering wheel (1)

Installation: Replace countersunk bolt (2).

Detach steering-column column shift (N135)

Remove steering wheel (1), passing the airbag unit cables through the opening while doing so

Installation: Assign the recess clearances of the serrations (arrows) in the steering wheel (1) to the markings on the steering shaft.

Checking

Check whether a vibration damper (4) is installed

When replacing the steering wheel (1)

Steering wheels (1) are available with vibration dampers (4) only. If a steering wheel (1) is installed without a vibration damper (4), then the vibration damper (4) must be removed from the new steering wheel, undo bolts (4a) to do so.

Check fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45) for damage

When the steering wheel (1) is detached, the fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45) must not be twisted, otherwise it will be damaged.

Visual inspection, if necessary replace fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45):

Install in the reverse order

Conduct a road test

Tests during the road test:

Turn signal reset

When the steering wheel is offset by more than 1 tooth, satisfactory resetting of the turn signal is no longer guaranteed.

Airbag indicator lamp

The SRS indicator lamp must not light up on full steering lock in both directions.

Steering wheel position (1)

If the steering wheel (1) is crooked, adjust it by max. 1 tooth.
