Remove/install

Remove glow plugs.

Remove cylinder head (1).

Attach cylinder head (1) to the assembly device (01).

 Follow the operating instructions for the  assembly device manufacturer (01).

Put together valve assembly tool and attach to the assembly device (01).

 Attach retaining fork to the sliding piece (05) and position thrust piece (04) vertically on the upper valve spring retainer (2).

Press valve springs (3) together with the valve assembly tool and remove valve keepers (4).


Ensure that the valve keepers (4) are reliably seated.
This avoids unfastening of the valve (6).

 Use tweezers or   the magnetic finger (07).

Remove upper valve spring retainer (2) and valve spring (3).

 Check upper valve spring retainer (2) for pitting and replace if necessary.

Remove valve stem seals with pliers.

 Installation: Use new valve stem seals. Fit protective sleeve onto the valve stem. Oil valve stem seals and press on with a  drift.

Remove lower valve spring retainer (5).

 Installation: Check lower valve spring retainer (5) for score marks, cracks, and pitting; replace if necessary.

Remove cylinder head (1) from assembly device (01) and remove valves (6).

General information on checking valves, valve seats and valve guides

 Installation: Check shaft surface of valve for roughness and ridging and check valve seat rings for roughness of the surface (visual inspection or a needle probe). Replace valves that have rough stem surfaces or ridging.

Install in the reverse order.
