Remove camshafts

Installation: Only install upper engine cover after the leak test.

Take out roller cam follower (1) with valve clearance compensating element (2)

Installation: Wet roller cam follower (1) and valve clearance compensating element (2) with engine oil.

When removing several valve clearance compensating elements (2) make sure that roller-type cam follower (1) with valve clearance compensating elements (2), which were not replaced, are reinstalled at the previous fitting point.
If necessary mark the roller cam follower (1) relative to the valve clearance compensating element (2).

Remove the clamp (3) by hand and take off valve clearance compensating element (2) from roller cam follower (1)

Check

Check valve clearance compensating element (2) for proper operation and replace if necessary


Only push valve clearance compensating element (2) together by hand, do not use a steel tool.
The surface of the valve clearance compensating element (2) can get damaged otherwise.

The valve clearance compensating element (2) should not allow itself to be pressed together by the normal force of the hand and also only slowly when using a strong force.

If a number of valve clearance compensating element (2) are defective.

Check compress oil supply of cylinder head.

Install in the reverse order

Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear buttoned-up and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform an engine test run; in doing so check for leaktightness and for functionality

Install upper engine cover
