Check rear axle differential oil level, correct if necessary

1 Clean area around oil filler screw (50 g).

2 Remove oil filler screw (50 g)

The rear axle is filled to the correct level when the oil reaches the lower edge of the filler opening. If necessary, top up the hypoid gear oil (see Specifications for Operating Fluids, Sheet 235.7) up to the lower edge of the oil filler opening.

If the oil level is checked when the rear axle differential is warm, do not drain off any oil that is discharged because due to thermal expansion an insufficient quantity of oil would then be left in the rear axle differential.

3 Replace seal ring for oil filler screw.

4 Screw in oil filler screw and tighten.
