Immobilizer stage 1a, function

As of 01/94, the RCL control module (N54) has an electric output (connector pin 25) for actuation of the starter lockout relay module (K38) for the immobilizer function (interruption of starter circuit).

If the vehicle is unlocked with the remote control key at one of the two control points, the starter lockout output is switched to ground, after switching on the ignition the starter lockout relay module (K38) pulls in and the vehicle can be started.

If the vehicle is locked with the remote control key at one of the two control points, the starter lockout output interrupts the ground connection to the starter lockout relay module (K38) and the vehicle cannot be started.

Notes

If the vehicle is unlocked with the mechanical key, the vehicle cannot be started.

On vehicles as of 12/93 without RCL, the starter lockout relay module (K38) is actuated via the pneumatic system equipment control module (A37/2-A37/5).

Repair note

If the starter lockout relay module (K38) malfunctions, separate the appropriate leads in the area of the A-pillar and install a new relay. See installation instructions 82.2 for installation location (connect according to wiring diagram).
