Y58/1 Purge control valve
Location
The purge control valve is located in the engine compartment.
Task
Opening or closing the connection line between the activated charcoal canister and the intake manifold (purge line).
Design
Electric switchover valve with two line terminals and one 2-pin plug connection.

Y58/1 Purge control valve
a Connection from activated charcoal canister
b Connection to intake manifold
Function
The purge control valve is actuated on the ground side by the
ME control unit, according to the operating conditions of the engine and the load status of the activated carbon canister, with a PWM signal (duty cycle 0 to 100 %).
The voltage supply is performed via circuit 87.
If purging is released, the purge control valve pulses audibly and perceptibly.
At the same time the passage for the purge line from the activated charcoal canister to the intake manifold is opened or closed.
The purge control switchover valve is opened and closed to check for leakage in the purge system. It also detects if the purge control valve jams in open condition.

72 Fluid reservoir
Y58/1 Purge control valve
a to intake manifold
To suppress pulse noise, a fluid reservoir is located upstream of the purge switchover valve.
The pulse switchover valve is designed for a larger flow volume (color coding).
