Location

The fuel level sensor is located in the fuel tank at the front right on the fuel feed module.

Design

The fuel level sensor consists of:

- Lever

- Float

- Double potentiometer (two sliding contacts)

Both sliding contacts of the double potentiometer are switched in parallel.

Function

The float changes the position of the lever (with the double potentiometer) according to the fuel level. This cause the resistance value of the double potentiometer to change, thus affecting the output voltage, which is then used as a measurement of fuel level.

The voltage signal from the fuel level indicator sensor is sent to the rear SAM control unit (N10/8), which processes the signal as required and sends it over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the instrument cluster (A1).
