Remove/install

Remove seat backrest trim.

Disconnect ground line on battery.

Disconnect electrical connection (2).

Release catch hook (4).

Unhook gas generator (3) with bracket (6) from seat backrest shell (5) and guide out as shown.

 Installation: Ensure correct seating of the gas generator (3) in the seat backrest shell (5).

Detach electrical connector (7).

Remove retaining ring (8).

 Installation:
Check retaining ring (8) is correctly seated.
Otherwise, a malfunction of the PRE-SAFE® pulse side may occur.

Press ring (9) in direction of gas generator (3).

Pull pressure line (10) out of gas generator (3).

 Installation:
Ensure correct seating of pressure line (10).
Otherwise, a malfunction of the PRE-SAFE® pulse side may occur.

Remove cover (1) with padding.

 The cover (1) remains on the padding.

Remove front seat sidebag unit.

Remove screws (11) from backrest frame (12).

Unhook electrical wiring harness (18) from seat backrest shell (5).

Remove lumbar support pneumatic pump (M25/4, M25/5) from seat backrest shell (5) and place to one side with lines connected.

Unhook hooks (15) of spring frame (14) from brackets (16).

Unclip brackets (16) from backrest frame (12).

Unhook bracket (5.1) of seat backrest shell (5) from backrest frame (12) in direction of arrow using a suitable screwdriver (19).

Push seat backrest shell (5) downwards.

 Slide seat backrest shell (5) downwards until the seat backrest shell (5) can be pushed through under the spring frame (14).

Push seat backrest shell (5) under spring frame (14), swing upwards in direction of arrow and remove.

 Note installation position of lumbar support (20) in spring frame (14).
The lumbar support (20) unhooks from the spring frame (14) as it swivels.

Release catch hook (21).

Unhook airbag (17) from seat backrest shell (5).

 Installation: Ensure correct seating of airbag (17).

Unhook pressure line (10) from seat backrest shell (5).

 Installation: Ensure correct seating of pressure line (10).

Remove airbag (17) with pressure line (10).

 Installation: When reinstalling the airbag (17) with the pressure line (10),check the components for external signs of damage.

If there is damage:



Replace airbag (17) with pressure line (10).

Install in the reverse order



Check

Check Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) using vehicle diagnosis system.


