Risk of injury caused by backrest suddenly folding forward if release lever is accidentally operated during inspection and repair work

When working on the seat, be careful not to accidentally release the backrest mechanism allowing the seat to fold forward. Keep body parts clear of the backrest travel area.

Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.

Remove seat and carefully place on a suitable surface with backrest (6)

Unclip plug (1) on seat-cushion frame (4)

On vehicles with code (I53) Curtain/thoraxbag or code (S17) Seat heaters (FFO)

Remove cable ties (8) and detach wiring harnesses (2) from holders (3) and expose them

On vehicles with code (I53) Curtain/thoraxbag or code (S17) Seat heaters (FFO)

Place seat on the rails

Remove seat cushion with seat cushion cover

Do not remove the seat cushion cover from the seat cushion.

Fold backrest (6) forward

Remove bolts (5) of backrest (6)

Installation: Position backrest (6) on seat-cushion frame (4) and turn bolts (5) all the way in. Tighten the bolts (5) opposite the seat belt buckle, starting at the front. Move backrest (6) to its rearmost position and lock in place. Tighten bolts (5) in area of seat belt buckle, starting from rear. While doing so, press the backrest (6) backwards.

Remove bracket (3) on seat-cushion frame (4)

When replacing the seat-cushion frame (4) on vehicles with code (I53) Head/thorax airbag or code (S17) Seat heater (FFO).

Remove edge guards (7) on seat-cushion frame (4)

When replacing seat-cushion frame (4).

Install in the reverse order
