Turn adjustment nuts (7) of side flap drive three turns counterclockwise

 Tension is relieved on side flaps (2.

Loosen left and right side flap (2) on trunk lid (8)

 Leave trunk lid (8) in normal position, do not remove paneling from trunk lid (8).

Remove cable tie on Bowden cable (3) to hydraulic line

On vehicles with code (881) Remote trunk closing (RTC)

Remove bolts (4, 5)

 Protect rear fender against damage. Hold side flap (2).

Disconnect side flap (2) from mounting plate (1)

 Observe position of side flap (2) for installation.
Check pinion on side flap (2) for damage. When the teeth are broken out replace the side flap drive.

Remove toothed rack (6) from mounting plate (1)

Remove mounting plate (1) from Bowden cable (3)

 When frozen, carefully remove mounting plate (1) from Bowden cable (3) with suitable open end wrench and rubber hammer.



Install

Install mounting plate (1) on Bowden cable (3)

 Coat cone on adjustment nut (7) with grease. Install mounting plate (1) flat with groove (arrow) on adjustment nut (7).

Insert toothed rack (6) into mounting plate (1)

Connect side flap (2) to mounting plate (1)

 Side flap (2) should be in the same position as when disconnected.
Helper required

Unscrew bolts (4, 5)

 When installing a new mounting plate (1), the thread is cut while screwing in.



Install cable tie on Bowden cable (3) to hydraulic line

On vehicles with code (881) Remote trunk closing (RTC)

Install left and right side flap (2) on trunk lid (8)

 Leave trunk lid (8) in normal position.

Adjust side flap drive for Vario roof

 Pretension both side flaps (2) uniformly.

Checking

Close trunk lid (8) and open Vario roof

 Trunk lid (8) must be opened and both side flaps (2) extended uniformly.

Check whether side flaps (2) make contact with trunk lid (8).

 Both side flaps (2) should make uniform contact with trunk lid (8).
If one side flap (2) does not make contact with trunk lid (8), reposition pinion on other side flap (2) one tooth on the rack (6)
