Remove/install

Remove rear spoiler at tailgate (3).

 Do not remove center brake lamp (E21) from rear spoiler.

Remove sealing films (2) and clean bonding surfaces.


Bonding surfaces must be free from dust, oil, grease, wax, dirt residues and other adhesive components.
Otherwise there may be adhesion problems.

 Installation: Replace sealing films (2).

Mark installation position of hinge (1) on left and/or right at tailgate (3) and body.

Lower roof lining in rear area until nuts (4) can be accessed.

Do no crush, kink or subject roof lining to tension.
This results in damage to roof lining.

Support tailgate (3).

Remove nuts (4).


Do not unscrew both hinges (1) simultaneously.
Tailgate (3) and body will otherwise be damaged.

 Installation: Align hinge (1) at marking.

 Bolt/nut, hinge to roof frame

If both hinges(1) need replaced,



Replace hinges (1) in succession.

Remove screws(5) and remove left and right hinge(1).

 Installation: Tighten screws(5) only when adjusting the liftgate(3).

 Installation: Align hinge (1) at marking.

 Helper required.

Install in the reverse order.

Check

Check gap dimension of tailgate (3), adjust if necessary.
