No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Switch off the ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS control unit

 On vehicles with code (889) KEYLESS-GO: Press KEYLESS-GO start/stop button repeatedly until ignition is switched off. Remove the transmitter key from the vehicle and store at a location that is beyond the transmitter range (at least 2 m).

Remove trunk floor covering from trunk

Remove spare tire cover or spare tire well trim from the luggage compartment

 Depending on vehicle equipment.

Disconnect electrical connector from battery sensor

Loosen nut (2) and remove ground line (1) from battery (G1)

 Nut, battery line to negative terminal/positive terminal
