Remove/install fuel lines

Remove/install

 Danger!

Risk of explosion caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel and risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.
Only pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

Fuel feed line (3) between fuel filter (6) and high-pressure pump

Remove interior flap above engine

Loosen clamp on respective connector (4) and detach fuel feed line (3)

Remove clip (2)

Remove fender liner in right rear fender

Unclip fuel feed line (3) on filler neck (5)

Disconnect fuel feed line (3) on fuel filter (6) and take off

Fuel feed line (7) between fuel tank (8) and fuel filter (6)

 Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Raise vehicle using the vehicle lift and remove underfloor paneling

Remove bulkhead wall

Support fuel tank (8) with a transmission jack and a removal fixture



Remove screw/bolts (9)



Lower fuel tank (8) carefully until the fuel feed line (7) is accessible

 When lowering the fuel tank (8), ensure that the filler neck (5) of the fuel tank (8) is not damaged, otherwise the fuel tank (8) must be replaced.

Unlock fuel feed line (7) to fuel pump with fuel level sensor (M3/3), detach and close using a suitable stop plug

Disconnect fuel feed line (7) on fuel filter (6) and take off

Fuel return line (1) between high-pressure pump and fuel tank (8)

Remove interior flap above engine

Loosen clamp on respective connector (4) and detach fuel return line (1)

Remove clip (2)

Unclip fuel return line (1) from brackets on filler neck (5)

Remove fender liner in right rear fender

Unclip fuel return line (1) in the upper area on filler neck (5)

Raise vehicle using the vehicle lift and remove underfloor paneling

Remove screw/bolts (9)



Lower fuel tank (8) carefully until the fuel return line (1) is accessible

 When lowering the fuel tank (8), ensure that the filler neck (5) of the fuel tank (8) is not damaged, otherwise the fuel tank (8) must be replaced.

Unlock fuel return line (1) to fuel pump with fuel level sensor (M3/3), detach and close using a suitable stop plug

Unclip fuel return line (1) in the lower area on filler neck (5) and remove

Install in the reverse order

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform test run engine and fuel system in area of the fuel return line (1), the fuel feed line (3) or the fuel feed line (7) for leaks
