Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Set steering gear to center position.

Remove lower engine compartment paneling.

Remove bolt (6).

 Installation: Slide screw (6) completely through radial groove of universal joint (7).

 Bolt, universal joint to steering gear

Remove universal joint (7) from steering gear (8).

 Installation:
Attach universal joint (7) at steering gear (8) correctly.
Otherwise, the universal joint (7) will be incorrectly fastened.

Lower vehicle.

Remove air filter housing.

Remove vacuum reservoir.

Remove vacuum line from brake booster.

Remove cable ties from coolant hoses in area of steering shaft (9).

 Installation: Replace cable ties.

Remove boot (4).

 To do so, remove nuts (5).

 Nut, boot of steering shaft to firewall

Remove cover at left under instrument panel.

Remove screw (1).

 Installation: Slide screw (1) completely through radial groove (arrow A).

Remove universal joint (2) from steering column tube (3).

 Installation:
Attach universal joint (2) to steering column tube (3) correctly.
Otherwise, the universal joint (2) will be incorrectly fastened.

Remove steering shaft (9).

 Installation:
Apply light coating of grease to bearing of steering shaft (9) in boot (4) (arrows B).
This prevents noise generation.

Special grease lubricant

Install in the reverse order.



Check

15

Perform test drive to check the steering wheel position.

If steering wheel position is incorrect,



perform suitable repair measures.
