Warning | Risk of injury. Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. | Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.
Warning | Risk of injury. Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. | No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components.
Caution | Risk of poisoning from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with brake fluid | Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.

| Remove/install | ||
1 | Move rear axle brakepads into assembly position.
| |||
Installation: Leave assembly position.
2 | Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).
3 | Remove cover above brake fluid expansion reservoir.
4 | Clean area around cap on brake fluid expansion reservoir. | Assembly cleaner
5 | Unscrew cap on brake fluid expansion reservoir and extract some brake fluid. | This prevents the expansion reservoir overflowing when the brake piston is pushed back.
6 | Remove right or left rear wheel and tire assembly.
7 | Release and disconnect electrical connector (2) from left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2).
8 | Remove screw (3), seal brake hose (4) and brake caliper (1), and place brake hose (4) to one side.
9 | Unscrew screws (5) and remove brake caliper (1). | Bolt, guide pin to brake caliper
10 | Remove brakepads. | ||
Installation: Brake paste or other lubricants must not be applied to the brakepads.
| Check | ||
11 | Check brakepads for wear and condition.

If a problem is detected,
| |||
replace brake linings.
12 | Check brake caliper (1) for damage. | If the brake caliper (1) is damaged.
| |||
Replace brake caliper (1).
13 | Check dust boot on brake piston for damage. | If the dust boot is damaged.
| |||
Replace brake caliper (1).
14 | Install in the reverse order.
Concluding tasks | |||
15 | Bleed brake system. | ||
Danger | Risk of accident when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. | Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.
16 | Operate brake pedal several times until the brakepads contact the brake disks. | Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.
Danger | Risk of death caused by limbs being caught or crushed by rotating parts when performing tests on the brake test stand | Never leave the vehicle unattended on the rollers except in an emergency. Ensure that no one is under the vehicle or near rotating parts during testing. In case of emergency, use the EMERGENCY OFF switch to shut down test stand.
17 | Perform brake test on test stand.
