6 | Check condition of tires | The condition of the tires can indicate incorrect adjustment of the steering geometry and wheel location system. | |
7 | Load the vehicle as required | Required loading condition: 80 - 90 % of payload | |
8 | Check thrust arm joints and tie rod joints for play | Turn the steering wheel to and fro. The vehicle must be on the ground for this test (loaded joints). | |
9 | Check spring suspension for pin play | There must be a certain compliance due to the rubber bushes. | |
10 | Check spring pack fixings of axles | The U-bolt and plate must be fitted straight and symmetrically. Replace center bolts according to findings. | |
11 | Check wheel suspension | Raise vehicle at the front until the wheels can turn freely. Operate service brake. Check play by moving the wheel to and fro using a tire lever. If there is an excessive level of play in spite of the brake being locked, there is a fault in the steering knuckle bearing. | |
