Remove/install

Drain oil from rear axle differential (50).

Release and disconnect electrical connector from electric differential lock temperature sensor (B94/23).

Unscrew screws (1) and remove rear axle differential oil pan (51) from rear axle differential (50).

 Installation: Replace rear axle differential oil pan (51) with seal.

 Screw, oil pan to rear axle differential

Clean

Clean sealing surfaces on rear axle differential (50) and rear axle differential oil pan (51).

Assembly cleaner

Install in the reverse order.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Carry out engine test run and check rear axle differential (50) for leak tightness.
