Remove

 Required special tools:

  Hollow-piston cylinder (020) 001 589 51 33 00

  Hydraulic hose (021) 652 589 00 33 23

  Hand pump (022) 652 589 00 33 21

The following tools are required from the  extraction and insertion tool 176 589 00 43 00:

  Counterholder (01) 176 589 00 43 01

  Thrust piece (04) 176 589 00 43 04

  Nut (09) 176 589 00 43 09

  Spindle (10) 176 589 00 43 10

1	Mount  hollow-piston cylinder (020) with  hydraulic hose (021) onto  hand pump (022).

2	Insert  counterholder (01) from front into rear axle carrier (2).

  When removing, the installation ring (07) must not be attached to the  counterholder (01).
The arrow on the  counterholder (01) must point downward.

3	 Position spindle (10),  nut (09),  hollow-piston cylinder (020) and  thrust piece (04), as shown, onto bearing (1) and  the counterholder (01).

4	Press bearing (1) forward out of the rear axle carrier (2).

 If the  hollow-piston cylinder (020) reaches its maximum stroke, release pressure at  hand pump (022) and retighten  nut (09). Then repeat the press-out procedure.

5	 Remove spindle (10),  nut (09),  hollow-piston cylinder (020),  thrust piece (04) and the bearing (1).

6	Remove  counterholder (01) from rear axle carrier (2).

Install

 Required special tools:

  Hollow-piston cylinder (020) 001 589 51 33 00

  Hydraulic hose (021) 652 589 00 33 23

  Hand pump (022) 652 589 00 33 21

The following tools are required from the  extraction and insertion tool 176 589 00 43 00:

  Counterholder (01) 176 589 00 43 01

  Thrust piece (04) 176 589 00 43 04

  Installation ring (07) 176 589 00 43 07

  Nut (09) 176 589 00 43 09

  Spindle (10) 176 589 00 43 10

7	 Insert installation ring (07) into  counterholder (01) and engage.

 Align the bores in the  installation ring (07) and the  counterholder (01) with each other.
 The installation ring (07) determines the end position of the bearing (1) in the rear axle carrier (2).

8	Insert  counterholder (01) with  installation ring (07) from front into rear axle carrier (2).

 The arrow on the  counterholder (01) must point downward.

9	Apply insertion agent to bearing (1).

10	 Position spindle (10),  nut (09), the  hollow-piston cylinder (020), bearing (1) and  thrust piece (04), as shown, onto rear axle carrier (2) and  counterholder (01).

 The protrusion of bearing (1) must face forward.

11	Press bearing (1) forward into rear axle carrier (2).

 If the  hollow-piston cylinder (020) reaches its maximum stroke, release pressure at  hand pump (022), and retighten  nut (09). Then repeat the press-in procedure.

12	 Remove spindle (10),  nut (09),  hollow-piston cylinder (020) and  thrust piece (04).

13	Remove  counterholder (01) with  installation ring (07) from rear axle carrier (2).

14	Wipe off excess insertion agent.
