Risk of death from lowering vehicle when working between wheels and body. Risk of injury from pinching or crushing when working on the air suspension.

Testing and repair work between the wheel and wheel arch or in the wheel well should only be performed if the vehicle is secured using suitable support fixtures to prevent it from lowering.
Adjustment operations should only be performed from underneath the vehicle.
Use only suitable support fixtures to secure the vehicle frame or vehicle axles in order to prevent them from lowering.
If necessary, additionally use suitable support fixtures in order to prevent other moving vehicle parts that are in the working area from lowering, or use suitable retaining devices to prevent these parts from moving suddenly and without warning.
Secure areas with moving vehicle parts against unauthorized access.

Remove

1

Loosen the front axle wheel nuts (65).

Jack up the front axle using a hydraulic jack (66) and support the front axle using tripod stands (67).

Remove front wheel.

Remove brake drum.

Remove hub cap (3) and seal ring (paper sealant A 400 334 00 80).

Loosen the lock screw from clamping nut (4).

Remove clamp nut from knuckle using special tool front axle socket wrench bit (5) and T-handle with extension.

Remove the thrust washer (6).

Install special tool front hub puller (7) on front wheel hub.


Don't remove the hub by force.
This can damage the hub bearing and seats.

 After installation remove front hub with bearing inner races and oil seal.

Remove the special tool from the hub and place the front hub over work bench.

Remove the inner race of outer taper roller bearing (8) from the front wheel hub.

 Clean the grease from the hub.

Remove sealing ring (9) from front wheel hub using special tools pulling hook - radial shaft and sealing ring (10) and impact extractor (11).

Remove the pole wheel (12) from front wheel hub in case of vehicle fitted with Anti lock breaking system (ABS).

 Use suitable distance piece, three jaw puller, hexagonal socket and ratchet for removal.

Remove inner taper roller bearing (13) from front wheel hub.

 In the event of inner bearing inner race (13) get struck steering knuckle, use two jaw puller (14) to remove bearing inner race and oil seal.

Remove inner taper roller bearing outer race from the front wheel hub.

 Use special tool puller - wheel hub outer race (15) with big bunk.

Remove outer tapered roller bearing outer race from the wheel hub.

 Use special tool puller - wheel hub outer races (15) with small bunk.
Degrease the bearings and then check for wear and pitting marks.

If found damages on the rollers or races,



replace the bearing.



Install

Visually inspect the wheel mounting bolts firmly held on the hub and threads are in good condition.

 Replace the wheel mounting bolt if necessary.

Visually inspect the bearing seating area for any damage or rotational marks.

Place special tool extension sleeve (16) below the hub outer bearing side while installing the inner bearing outer race and sealing.

Install inner bearing outer race (17) using special tool T.B Insertion plate outer diameter 124.7 mm (18).

Grease the hub bearings.



Install pole wheel (12) to the front wheel hub, for vehicle fitted with anti lock breaking system (ABS).

 Use special tool front axle ABS pole ring (20).

Install new sealing ring (9) in front wheel hub using special tool front axle sealing in hub (20).

 Always use new sealing ring.

Install outer bearing outer race using special tool installer T.B Insertion plate outer diameter 89.7 mm (21)

 Clean steering knuckle, and face of the knuckle towards hub (remove old grease, dust and dirt). Also check the threads for hub clamp nut. Place the hub over the knuckle.

Install the outer tapered roller bearing (8) to the steering knuckle.

Install the special tool guide seal (22) to the steering knuckle and install the front wheel hub (23).

Install special tool printing case (24) to the guide seal.

Install the special tool EG threaded part (25) to the guide seal and tighten till front wheel hub assembly properly seated.

 While tightening, turn the hub at least 3 times and gently tap in crosswise pattern on the wheel hub using a rubber mallet. (To seating and align the bearing rollers).

 Detach the special tools from the steering knuckle.

Install thrust washer (6) and clamp nut (4) on the steering knuckle.

Set hub end play.
