Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove/install

1.1

Remove floor covering in driver's side footwell.

If the shock-absorber strut (1) on the driver's side is removed.

Remove vehicle tool kit carrier plate.

If the shock-absorber strut (1) on the front passenger side is removed.

Remove each front wheel.

Remove holder (5).

 To do so, release holder (5).
Remove holder (5) and position outside the working area with electric line.

Lift transverse control arm approx. 10 mm using a jack.


The shock-absorber strut (1) is relieved by the spring preload.
This avoids damage to the threaded connections.

 Commercially available devices/tools
Vehicle jack

Remove screws (2) of pivot bearing (6).

 Installation: Replace screw/bolts (2).
Only tighten screws (2) if the shock-absorber strut (1) is bolted on the steering knuckle.

 Installation: Tighten screws (2) only after wheel alignment measurement.

Remove shock-absorber strut (1).

Notes on threaded connections fastened using a tightening angle-based tightening process

 To do so, remove bolts (3).
Counterhold nuts (4).

 Installation: Replace bolts (3) and nuts (4).
Lightly tighten screw/bolts (3) by hand.
Always screw on nuts (4) on the side of the brake caliper.

 Installation: Tighten screws (3) only after wheel alignment measurement.

Remove decoupling element at pivot bearing (6).

 Installation:
The decoupling element on the pivot bearing (6) must be replaced.
Otherwise, noise will be generated during driving and during steering movements.

Remove pivot bearing (6).

If shock-absorber strut (1) or the pivot bearing (6) is replaced.

Note on calculation of tightening torque when using insertion or socket tools with various effective lengths

 Unscrew nuts (7) to do this.

 Installation: Replace nut (7).

If the piston rod of the shock-absorber strut (1) turns.



Counterhold piston rod with a suitable tool.



Check

Check shock-absorber strut (1).

Check pivot bearing (6).

 Check pivot bearing (6) for damage.

If corresponding findings are present,



Replace pivot bearing (6).

Install in the reverse order

Perform chassis alignment.
