Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves.

Remove

1

Lift vehicle at rear axle using pit hoist



 Do not lower the frame onto the supporting blocks at this stage.

Remove complete wheels at rear

Remove spring U-bolt (1) and spring plate (2)

Lower chassis frame onto jack stands

 Commercially available tools:
Jack stands

Lower rear axle far enough until rear axle spring (4) is relieved



Carefully lower rear axle.
Otherwise, the brake hoses will be damaged.

Unscrew nuts (3, 11), remove bolts (5, 10) and remove rear axle spring (4)

Unscrew nut (9), remove bolt (8) and remove spring shackle (7) from rear axle spring (4)



Check

Check bushings of rear axle spring (4) and spring shackle (7)

For damage or wear



Replace bearing bushings in rear axle spring (4) or spring shackle (7).

Install

Position spring shackle (7) on rear spring bracket and tighten bolt (10) using nut (11) lightly by hand

 Replace nut (11).

Position rear axle spring (4) on front spring bracket as well as on spring shackle (7) and tighten bolts (5, 8) with nuts (3, 9) lightly by hand

 Replace nuts (3, 9).

 Observe installation position of the springs. Install color-coded bearing eye, Ø 55 mm, (arrow) in direction of travel at front.

Lift rear axle using pit hoist



Position spring plate (2) and spring U-bolt (1) onto rear axle spring (4) and tighten nuts (6)



 Replace nuts (6).

 After a driving distance of 500 to 1000 km, the nuts (6) on the spring U-bolts (1) have to be retightened.

Lower vehicle and set down onto wheel and tire assembly

Tighten nuts (3, 9, 11) on front and rear spring bracket as well as spring shackle (7)


The nuts (3, 9, 11) must be tightened with suspension in compressed state.
Otherwise, the bearing bushings will be damaged.
