Remove/install

Disconnect ground line from the starter battery (G1).

Remove engine air intake duct upstream of air filter (1).

Release charge air hose (2) from throttle valve, remove, and place to one side.

Open and close coupling

Remove purge valve (3) from bracket and place to one side.

Remove cover of circuit 30.

Unscrew nut (4), remove electric line for circuit 30 from starter (M1), and place to one side.

 Installation: Ensure that the electric line is seated correctly.

 Nut, connection for terminal designation 30

Unscrew nut (5), remove electric line for circuit 50 from starter (M1), and place to one side.

 Installation: Ensure that the electric line is seated correctly.

 Nut, connection for terminal designation 50

Remove screws (6) from starter (M1).

 Installation: Ensure that the foam seal (7) is seated correctly.

 Bolt, starter to crankcase

Remove starter (M1) upward.



Check

Check pinion of the starter (M1) for damage and wear.

If the starter (M1) continues to be used.

If damage or wear is identified,



Replace starter (M1).

Check ring gear on flywheel/drive plate for damage and wear.

 Rotate engine at center Bolt, crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation.

If damage or wear can be identified,



Replace flywheel/drive plate.
