No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Remove

Disconnect battery ground line

Disconnect engine wiring harness cable tie at electrical wiring harness of starter (M1)

Lift vehicle on vehicle lift

Disconnect electrical wiring harness on starter (M1)

Remove screw/bolts (1) and remove starter (M1) from below



Check

Check pinion on the starter (M1) for damage

When reusing the starter (M1).

If damage is present



Replace starter (M1).

Turn engine at center bolt of the crankshaft in direction of engine rotation and check ring gear on flywheel for damage

If damage is present



Replace flywheel.

Install

Position starter (M1), screw in screw/bolt (1) and tighten

 Bolt, starter to crankcase

Connect electrical wiring harness to starter (M1)

Lower vehicle fully with vehicle lift

Connect engine wiring harness and electrical wiring harness of starter (M1) with new cable tie

Connect ground line to battery
