| Remove/install | ||
1 | Remove interior flap above engine | ||
2 | Detach screw clamp (2) and remove air intake duct (3) from hot film mass air flow sensor (B2/5) | ||
3 | Unclip air intake pipe (3) on housing for charge air fan motor (M44) | ||
4 | Remove rear muffler | ||
5 | Disconnect electrical connector of exhaust temperature sensor upstream of exhaust gas turbocharger (B19/11x1) | On vehicles with code (474) Diesel particulate filter (closed) | |
6 | Detach screw clamp (4) and remove charge air hose (5) on turbocharger (1) | ||
7 | Detach screw clamp (6) and remove air intake (3) on turbocharger (1) | ||
8 | Remove bolts (7) and oil return line (8) on turbocharger (1) | Installation: Replace gasket between oil return line (8) and turbocharger (1). | |

9 | Remove bolts (9) and exhaust gas recirculation (10) on turbocharger (1) | Installation: Replace gasket between exhaust gas recirculation (10) and turbocharger (1). | |

10 | Unscrew banjo bolt (11) and detach oil feed line (12) at turbocharger (1) | Installation: Install new sealing rings on banjo bolt (11). | |

11 | Unscrew nuts for turbocharger (1) on cylinder head and remove turbocharger (1) | Replace self-locking nut for turbocharger (1) on cylinder head. | |
The turbocharger (1) is attached by means of seven nuts on the cylinder head. | |||
Installation: Clean sealing surfaces on turbocharger (1) and on cylinder head. Replace seal between turbocharger (1) and cylinder head. | |||

12 | Unscrew union nut (13) and remove exhaust temperature sensor upstream turbocharger (B19/11) from the turbocharger (1) | When replacing the turbocharger (1) for vehicles with code (474) Diesel particulate filter (closed) | |

13 | Install in the reverse order | ||

14 | Test run engine and check exhaust system for leaks around turbocharger (1) | ||
15 | Read out fault memory, erase if necessary | On vehicles with code (474) Diesel particulate filter (closed) | |
| Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory |
