Remove/install

Open engine hood and position upright.

 Installation: Do not close the engine hood until after the engine test run.

Remove viscous fan clutch

Remove air filter housing.

Remove charge air hose upstream of charge air cooler.

Release and disconnect electrical connector on charge air temperature sensor (B17/8).

Remove bracket (4) for exhaust gas recirculation cooler.

Remove exhaust gas line (2) from the exhaust gas recirculation actuator (Y27/9).

 Installation: Replace seal.

 Bolt, exhaust line to AGR valve housing/mixing chamber

Remove screw/bolts (3).

 Screw/bolt, mixing chamber to charge air distributor

Release and disconnect electrical connector at throttle valve actuator (M16/6).

Release and disconnect the electrical connector on the boost pressure sensor (B5/1).

Remove mixer housing (1).

 Installation: Replace seal.

Remove engine charge air duct downstream of charge air cooler (5) from the throttle valve actuator (M16/6).

When replacing the mixer housing (1).

Remove the throttle valve actuator (M16/6) from the mixer housing (1).

When replacing the mixer housing (1).

 Installation: Replace seal.

Remove exhaust gas line (2) from the mixer housing (1).

When replacing the mixer housing (1).

 Installation: Replace seal.

 Bolt, exhaust line to AGR valve housing/mixing chamber

Install in the reverse order.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run. While doing so, check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.
