Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Set piston on the 1st cylinder to ignition top dead center (TDC)

Rotate engine at crankshaft in the running direction. The TDC marking of vibration damper must be aligned with bar of timing case cover.

 Installation: Replace sealing ring of oil drain screw.

Pull out slide rail bolts (7) at cylinder heads

 In the case of a bolt on the right next to the oil filter housing in the engine block, this should be removed analog to the slide rail bolt (7) in the cylinder head. This ensures that the left slide rail is movable.

Remove bolt (3) for tensioning rail (3.1)

 Bearing pin of tensioning rail

Pull out tensioning rail (3.1) from the bottom

Remove left exhaust camshaft (2)

 Mark timing chain (1) and sprocket for easier assembly in area (A) in color.

Allow timing chain (1) to sag down into the timing case

Remove bolt (4) for slide rail (4.1)

 Bearing pin for slide rail

Press tensioning rail on oil pump drive (8) upwards against spring force

 Installation: Push tensioning rail for oil pump drive (8) together completely before installation and insert from below into timing case.

Pull out slide rail (4.1) from the bottom

Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Check engine for leaks

 Check for leaks around timing case cover after the engine test run.
