Remove/Install

Remove cylinder head cover (11)

Position piston of cylinder 1 to ignition TDC

Crank engine at crankshaft in clockwise direction to TDC marking (arrow). Do not crank engine backwards and not at the intake camshaft (10) and exhaust camshaft (9), otherwise this can lead to damage at the engine control or at the intake camshaft (10) and the exhaust camshaft (9).

The cams of the intake camshaft (10) and exhaust camshaft (9) for 1st cylinder must point upwards.

Lock intake camshaft (10)

Insert retaining pin (12) at

1st camshaft bearing cap into the locking hole (A) in the intake camshaft sprocket

Remove high pressure pump (4)

Remove front cover (5) at cylinder head

Detach camshaft timing gear (7) at exhaust camshaft (9)

If necessary counterhold exhaust camshaft (9) with open end wrench.

Observe dowel pin (8). Secure timing chain after removing the camshaft sprocket (7) with a tie strap to prevent it from falling down.

Installation: Replace bolts (6).

Remove inlet camshaft (10)

Do not remove exhaust camshaft (9).

Unscrew bolt (3) at intermediate gear of high pressure pump (1)

Take intermediate gear of high pressure pump (1) together with liner (2) up and out through the timing chain shaft

Install in the reverse order
