Check

1

Turn the ignition key to the ON position, without running the engine

If hydraulic steering fluid is cold, run engine in idle speed and turn steering wheel a few times to both sides, to heat the fluid. Then, stop the engine and keep the ignition key ON.

Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

2

Start the engine

For forward control cabin vehicles and engine 904.9, 906.9 - run engine using switch (S10).
For forward control cabin vehicles and engine 364, 366 - run engine using switch (A).

3

Check level through the translucent reservoir

If the steering system is correctly refueled, the fluid level with the engine running, at idle speed, must be located withing the max. and min (2) reference for the fluid level hot.

If you cannot see fluid level through the translucent reservoir, use dipstick (4). In this case, carefully remove dipstick to prevent debris from entering the reservoir. If system is correctly filled up, fluid level should be at dipstick level range (b).

The fluid level must not exceed the indication of maximum level .

Refill

4

If fluid is at the minimum level or below, reestablish the maximum level in the reservoir

5

Clean reservoir end cover (3) and surroundings, remove it and add recommended fluid

6

Stop the engine

For forward control cabin vehicles and engine 904.9, 906.9 - turn off engine using switch (S11).
For forward control cabin vehicles and engine 364, 366 - turn off engine using switch (A).
When engine is off, oil level should go up 1 to 2 cm. above max level reference mark.
If fluid level goes up more than 2 cm, it indicates that there is air in the hydraulic circuit, then it is necessary to purge the system.
