Task/design
Detecting the ignition TDC of cylinder 1 (cylinder recognition) from the position of the inlet camshaft
1 Housing
4 Electrical connections
6 Seal
7 Permanent magnet
8 Coil
9 Coil core
10 Segment of camshaft adjuster
L5/1 Camshaft position sensor

Function
When the engine is running, the segment at the camshaft adjuster (g) generates an alternating voltage (h) in the camshaft position sensor (induction).
The higher the engine speed the higher the voltage.
The position of the segment results in a voltage pulse, in each case at ignition TDC of cylinder 1.

g Segment of camshaft adjuster
h Signal of camshaft position sensor
P15.00-0011-06
The signal is generated contactlessly, which necessitates a defined clearance between the housing of the camshaft position sensor (L5/1) and the segment of the camshaft adjuster. The clearance can be set with spacers (11) of varying thickness.
