Remove/install

Danger!

Risk of explosion caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel and risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.
Only pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

Disconnect battery ground line

Remove intake air hose upstream of air filter (1)

Disconnect electrical connector (2)

For vehicles with code (KL5) Fuel filter with water separator

Remove fuel hoses (3, 4) on main fuel filter (5)

Collect escaping fuel in a suitable container and seal off connections with suitable stop plugs.

Remove retaining bracket (6) on bracket (7)

Pull out safety clamp (8), unlock retaining lugs (arrow) using suitable pliers and detach drain pipe (9)

For vehicles with code (KL5) Fuel filter with water separator

Installation: Check sealing ring and replace if necessary.

Remove main fuel filter (5)

Remove the fuel filter water level sensor (B76)

When renewing main fuel filter (5) on vehicles with code (KL5) Fuel filter with water separator.

Install in the reverse order

Switch on ignition

Allow ignition to stay on for at least 15 s so that fuel is available to high pressure pump at engine start otherwise damage can occur to high pressure pump.

Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run, switch off engine and check fuel system for leaks in the area of the main fuel filter (5)
