Dial indicator
Adjustment device
D35.30-0006-01
a Measure production tolerance of rear axle housing
1 Screw measuring pin (tool scope of adjustment device) into dial indicator (3).
2 Press spacer piece (4) firmly against the adjustment device (1) and adjust 2 mm preload on the dial indicator.
3 Set dial indicator to zero.
This also sets the adjustment device (1) to the specified basic dimension.
D35.30-0007-01
4 Insert measuring piece (2) into rear axle housing.
5 Insert adjustment device (1) into the rear axle housing and determine the highest position of the measuring pin (vertical position) by turning gently to and fro.
6 Measure production difference in relation to specified basic dimension.
If the dimension deviates toward the center of the ring gear (the dial indicator indicates more than 2 mm), subtract this difference from the difference dimension of the drive pinion.
If the dimension deviates toward the drive pinion (the dial indicator indicates less than 2 mm), add this difference to the difference dimension of the drive pinion.
The difference dimension thus determined, taking into account the deviation from the specified basic dimension engraved on the ring gear, corresponds to the thickness of the shim.
D35.30-0008-01
B Deviation from specified basic dimension
The difference between the specified basic dimension and the basic dimension engraved on the ring gear must be added to or deducted from the dimension difference of the drive pinion.
Example:
Specified basic dimension 74,50 mm
Dimension engraved onto ring gear 74,52 mm
Difference dimension (to be deducted from difference dimension of
drive pinion) -0.02 mm
If the dimension engraved on the ring gear is e.g. 74.46 mm, 0.04 mm must be added to the dimension.
Examples for calculating the thickness of the shim
Example 1:
Basic dimension 74,50 mm
Dimension engraved onto ring gear -74,52 MM
Deviation from basic dimension - 0.02 mm
Difference dimension of drive pinion 5,18 mm
Deviation from basic dimension -0.02 mm
Production deviation of rear axle housing
(towards ring gear) -0,06 MM
Shim to be installed 5,10 mm
Example 2:
Basic dimension 74,50 mm
Dimension engraved onto ring gear -74,46 MM
Deviation from basic dimension + 0.04 mm
Difference dimension of drive pinion 5,36 mm
Deviation from basic dimension +0,04 mm
Production deviation of rear axle housing
(towards drive pinion) +0,02 mm
Shim to be installed 5,42 mm
