Remove

Remove left front wheel.

Loosen screw (4) in wheel hub.

 Operate service brake here. Aid of helper required.

Remove lower engine compartment paneling.

Remove torsion bar linkage from stabilizer bar.

Remove ball head of tie rod from steering knuckle.

Remove supporting joint from steering knuckle.

Unscrew bolt (4).

 Dispose of screw (4).

Pull front axle shaft (1) out of wheel hub.

 To do so, swivel steering knuckle to one side.

Pry front axle shaft (1) out of axle drive module (3) using the side of the knock-out tool (2) marked with "L", and remove in direction of arrow (arrow A).

 Catch oil running out.

Check

Check boots of front axle shaft (1).

 Visual inspection only.

If corresponding findings are present,



Replace respective boot.

Install

Replace radial shaft sealing ring.

Install front axle shaft (1) in axle drive module (3).


Handle front axle shaft (1) carefully.
Otherwise, the radial shaft sealing ring (2) may be damaged.

Insert front axle shaft (1) into wheel hub.


The spur toothing of the front axle shaft (1) must engage with the teeth on the wheel bearing.
This prevents damage to the front axle shaft (1) or wheel bearing.

 For this, turn spur toothing of front axle shaft (1) in opposite direction relative to toothing on wheel bearing until they positively mesh.

Tighten new screw (4) lightly by hand.

Install supporting joint at steering knuckle.

Install ball head of tie rod at steering knuckle.

Tighten down screw/bolt (4).

Attach left front wheel.

Check transmission oil level.


