Removing

1

Remove cylinder head covers

Check basic position of camshafts

If the basic position of the camshafts is incorrect: 

Turn engine to a 40° crank angle after ignition TDC at cylinder 1.

 The engine must not be turned backwards; otherwise the timing chain can get jammed.

Remove chain tensioner

Remove camshaft Hall sensor

Remove right-hand camshaft sprocket

 Lift timing chain from camshaft sprocket.

Remove left camshaft sprocket

 Lift timing chain from camshaft sprocket.

 Open-end wrench

Installing

Rotate left camshaft to its basic position and fit locating plate to the camshaft

 Groove of camshaft (6) must point to the center of the cylinder head cover separating surface in direction of inner V.

Place locating plate (2) flush onto left cylinder head and insert into the slot of the camshaft (6).

 At a 40° crank angle after ignition TDC of cylinder 1, it is possible to rotate the camshaft without the valves coming into contact with the pistons.

Rotate right camshaft to basic position and insert locating plate (2) for right camshaft into camshaft

 Groove of camshaft (6) must point to the center of the cylinder head cover separating surface in direction of inner V.

 Place locating plate (2) for the right camshaft flush on the right cylinder head and insert it into the keyway (6) of the camshaft.

 At a 40° crank angle after ignition TDC of cylinder 1, it is possible to rotate the camshaft without the valves coming into contact with the pistons.

Install left camshaft sprocket

 Place timing chain onto camshaft sprocket.



 Place timing chain onto camshaft sprocket.

Checking

Inspect timing
