Removing

Remove transmission

Remove crank angle angle position sensor (B15) from the timing case (4)

 Do not disconnect electrical connector.

Attach cranking device

Lockup ring gear carrier (3) using cranking device

Identify installation position of pressure plate (1) and clutch plates (2) relative to ring gear carrier (3)

Secure clutch plates (2) using two cable ties to prevent them from turning

Remove pressure plate (1) and clutch plate (2)

Remove two opposing bolts (6)

 Screwdriver bit

Screw centering drift (5) into threaded hole

 Alignment punch

Remove remaining bolts (6)

 Screwdriver bit

Remove ring gear carrier (3) via centering drift (5)

 In the case of a jammed ring gear carrier (3), screw in two bolts (M1280) in two opposing threaded holes of the ring gear carrier (3) and pull out the ring gear carrier (3).



Checking

Check flange on ring gear carrier (3) for galling by the radial sealing ring

 Replace ring gear carrier (3) if necessary.

Check ring gear for wear

 If wear is found: 

Replace ring gear on ring gear carrier (3)

Check pressure plate (1) and clutch plates (2) for damage; replace if necessary

Measure shank length (L) of bolts (6)

 If permissible shank length (L) is exceeded, replace bolt (6) concerned.

Install

Install ring gear carrier (3) via centering drift (5)

 Observe installation position of dowel pin in the crankshaft; remove both screw/bolts (M1280).

Coat screw/bolts (6) with engine oil and screw in

 Do not tighten screw/bolts (6) yet.

Remove centering drift (5)

 Alignment punch

Coat remaining two screw/bolts (6) with engine oil and screw in; then tighten all screw/bolts (6)



Install pressure plate (1) and clutch plate (2)

 Note marking.

Remove cable ties from clutch plates (2)

Remove turning device

Push crankshaft position angle sensor (B15) all the way into timing case (4)

 Check bushing for crankshaft position angle sensor (B15); replace if necessary.
