Remove/install

Turn key in ignition lock to position "0"

Vehicles with Keyless-Go code 889: Press the Keyless-Go start and stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off.

Remove the Keyless Go transmitter card or transmitter key from the vehicle and store beyond the reach of the transmitter

(min. 2 m).

Remove front engine cover and right intake air duct

Remove air shutoff valve (1) at the right cylinder head

Remove bolts (2a) and place bracket (2) for front engine cover with switchover valve (Y32) to one side

Do not detach the lines at the switchover valve (Y32).

Remove hose (3)

Disconnect electrical connectors at Hall sensors (B6/5, B6/7) and solenoids (Y49/5, Y49/7)

Remove bolts (4a) from front cover (4)

Carefully loosen front cover (4) at lifting lugs (4b) and detach to the front

Pay attention to fitted sleeves in area of outer threaded connections (arrows).

Installation: Apply sealant to the front cover (4):

Clean sealing surfaces on front cover (4), on cylinder head cover and on cylinder head

Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper as this will damage the sealing surfaces.

Detach Hall sensor (B6/5, B6/7) and solenoids (Y49/5, Y49/7) from front cover (4)

When replacing the front cover (4)

Install in the reverse order

Checking

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
