Notes on repair work on suspension components
| Remove/install | ||
1 | Raise vehicle using the vehicle lift and secure in place
2 | Detach front wheel and tire assembly
3 | Unscrew nut (5) | Bolt with nut, steering knuckle to transverse control arm
4 | Pull bolt (6) out of steering knuckle (4)
5 | Press supporting ball joint (7) out of steering knuckle (4)
6 | Unscrew nuts from bolts (2) | Installation: Steer the complete wheel to the left or right and tighten the bolts (2) and nuts.
Bolt, transverse control arm to front subframe
Screw/bolt, transverse control arm to rear subframe
7 | Pull screws/bolts (2) out of transverse control arm (1) and remove transverse control arm (1) from integral carrier (3)
| Check | ||
8 | Check seal bellows (7.1) on supporting joint (7) | If damage is present
| |||
Replace transverse control arm (1).
9 | Check supporting joint (7) for tight seating in transverse control arm (1) | If loosely seated
| |||
Replace transverse control arm (1).
Warning | Risk of injury caused by elastomer bearings or bearing parts coming loose suddenly during installation/removal and shooting wildly through the air | Shield hazard area with suitable catch device (basket, iron-barred box). Also ensure that no unauthorized persons are present in the hazard area.
10 | Check elastomer bearing on transverse control arm (1) | If wear or damage present
| |||
Replace elastomer bearing on transverse control arm (1).
Lubricant | |||
Removal and installation tool
11 | Clean seat on supporting ball joint (7) and steering knuckle (4)
12 | Install in the reverse order
13 | Perform wheel alignment check | When replacing transverse control arm (1) or elastomer bearing on transverse control arm (1).
