Disassemble

Remove transfer case

Transfer case 750.581 in model 670.4

Remove road speed pick-up (B17).

Remove shift cylinder on front (2) and rear (16) sections of housing

Remove drive/countershaft cover

Remove pulse star (21)

 Counterhold at drive shaft (8)



Undo bolts (18) on rear section of housing

 Undo bolts with exception of two bolts on opposite side and remove spring washers (17).

Remove transfer case flange to manual transmission and radial sealing ring (1)

Rotate transfer case such that the front section of the housing faces upwards

 Support the transfer case.



Undo the two remaining bolts (18) on the transfer case

Remove front section of housing (2) from rear section of housing (16)

 During the removal process make sure that the output shaft to the front axle and the shift rods slide out of the front housing section without jamming.



Remove drive shaft (8) together with shift rod (4)

 Use M161.5 threaded hook.

Detach shift rod (4) from drive shaft (8), remove push spring (6) and withdraw shift rod (4) from shift fork (5)

Remove O-ring (3) from shift rod (4)

Remove oil scraper (14)

Remove planet carrier (15)

Remove countershaft (11)

17

Remove bearing outer race (19, 20) from rear section of housing (16)

18

Remove radial sealing ring (1)

Remove bearing outer race (7, 10) from front section of housing (2)



Remove oil filler screw (25)

Take off seal (24).

Check straight pins (9) are securely fitted in the rear section of the housing

 Replace any loose straight pins.
