1 Install crankshaft bearing cap.
The crankshaft bearing caps are positioned laterally in the crankcase. The fit is off-centered 0.5 mm with the result that crankshaft bearing caps can only be installed in one position. If correctly installed, the lug (arrow) on the crankshaft bearing cap points to the left (intake side) when viewed in the direction of travel. Crankshaft bearing caps are machined together with the crankcase and must not be interchanged.

2 Measure crankshaft bearing bore with a rapid calipers for internal measurements in direction "A" and note the measured value (example: 62.51 mm dia.).
If damage is visible at the bearing points of the crankcase, the crankcase must be replaced.
3 Remove crankshaft bearing cap.

4 Measure crankshaft bearing journal diameter with an outside micrometer (example: 57.95 mm dia.).
5 Determine crankshaft bearing shell thickness.
Example:
Crankshaft bearing bore diameter 62.51 mm
Crankshaft bearing journal diameter -57.95 mm
4.56 mm
Radial bearing play (specified value)
Test values table "crankshaft bearing play". dia. -0.04 mm
4.52 mm : 2
Required bearing shell density 2.26 mm
In the event of different bearing shell thicknesses, install thicker crankshaft bearing shells in the crankshaft bearing cap.
