Replacing

1 Rapidly heat starter ring gear to 250° to 280°C with a welding torch and press off.

Risk of burns.

2 Heat new starter ring gear to 250°C to 280°C and press on.

Risk of burns.

Note

The starter ring gear must be pressed on until it abuts the flywheel and must be sunk. The maximum lateral runout of the pressed on starter ring gear of 0.5 mm must not be exceeded.

3 On engines with a hole circle diameter for mounting the clutch of 410 mm, the starter ring gear must be drilled after installing and provided with M101.5 threads.

Note

Grease starter ring gear with longlife grease before operating.
