General
The fan couples and decouples according to the cooling need demanded by the engine and/or retarder. The electro-magnetic coupling works in two stages. In the first stage (with the coil off) there is no coupling, the fan rotates due to magnetic traction at a fraction of the engine coil rotation and ensures a minimum cooling system.
Operation
The fan couples electro-magnetically and is controlled by the engine control module MR (10A01). The engine control module MR (10A01) receives information from the engine coolant (10B08) thermal sensor .
This information is read by the gear control module FR/CPC (10A02/10A10) at the engine CAN line (CAN 4), in vehicles equipped with retarder, if they include information from the retarder oil (14B02) thermal sensor.
The retarder engine coolant temperature is transmitted by the retarder control module (14A01/ 14A02) to the gear control module FR/CPC (10A02/10A10) through the vehicle CAN line (CAN 1).
In case the threshold temperature is exceeded and if the retarder is actuated simultaneously, the gear control module FR/CPC (10A02/10A10) actuates the fan electro-magnetic coupling through the engine CAN line (CAN 4).
In case of fault in the engine coolant (10B08) thermal sensor or fault in one of the fan electro-magnetic coupling components, a fault indication will be shown on the instrument panel. However, the previous condition to this is the existence of a current fault.
In case of fault in the engine coolant (10B08) thermal sensor or fault in one of the fan electro-magnetic coupling components, the current value of the sensor combined with pressure and temperature of engine oil (10B16/10B16A) is used to actuate the fan electro-magnetic coupling. In case of fault in the combined engine oil pressure and temperature sensor (10B16/10B16A) the fan electro-magnetic coupling is actuated.
