Before performing maintenance work, read through the technical sheet, such as Operation manual and workshop information. Always have the maintenance work performed within the intended intervals. Otherwise, it may cause malfunctions or faults on the safety systems. Thus, it may cause an accident and cause injury to yourself or to others.
Vehicle maintenance categories
The scope and frequency of maintenance works are established, first, by the different conditions of vehicle usage. Mercedes-Benz maintenance plan meets those requirements, allowing you to choose the maintenance periods according to the type of vehicle usage.
Maintenance intervals depend on the use of the vehicle. For that reason, asses the conditions to which your vehicle will be predominantly submitted to in a critical way. Then, consciously choose, together with your Mercedes-Benz dealer, the most appropriate category for keeping your vehicle in good conditions.
If, for reasons of vehicle sale or change in operating conditions, the maintenance category is to be changed within the warranty period, this change must be made with the involvement of a Mercedes-Benz dealer and communicated to Mercedes-Benz do Brasil Ltda.
Considerations about engine oil change
The interval to change engine oil and oil filter is dependent on:
Engine oil quality.
The fuel: sulfur content in fuel.
Vehicle operation conditions.
Time dependent: at least every 12 months.
Engine oils
The maximum interval for oil change is achieved only when extremely high quality engine oils are used (products according to class MB 228.3 or MB 228.5). To learn more about certified products recommended by Mercedes-Benz visit the websites:
www.mercedes-benz.com.br (for Brazil)
http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com (for the other markets)
Never add any additives to approved and recommended lubricating oils by Mercedes-Benz, as the use of such additives can negatively influence on lubricating properties and cause damage to the engine.
Engine oil viscosity SAE class should be chosen according to the average temperature of the region at the respective season of the year.
Use of engine oils not approved and not recommended by Mercedes-Benz can restrict the rights to claim warranty.
Any dealership or Authorized Service Station can provide additional information on this subject.
Sulfur content in the fuel
The maximum engine oil change intervals depending on the oil class used are valid only when using diesel fuel with a sulfur tenor up to 0.3% of weight.
If the sulfur tenor is above 0.3 up to 0.8% of weight, oil change interval should be reduced by half.
If the sulfur tenor is above 0.8% of weight, oil change interval in any maintenance category should be according to the recommended for Operations under severe conditions operation.
Oil change intervals showed on the table above are valid for Euro 2 engines or below only. Lubricating oil according to class 228.1 should not be used when the fuel presents sulfur level above 1%.
Oil change intervals showed on the table above are valid for Euro 3 engines only, according to the identification on the engine identification plate. If you have any questions, please see your Mercedes-Benz dealer or authorized service location.
The ZF-Ecomat automatic transmission, mounted on chassis for articulated buses, must be refueled only with oil according to the list of lubricants ZF TE-ML 14, class 14E.
The ZF-Ecolife automatic transmission must be refueled only with oil according to the list of lubricants ZF TE-ML 20, class 20E.
The recommended change intervals shall never exceed the established limits; the event that occurs first shall be considered the deadline (mileage or time).
1st rear axle oil change should be executed at 1st vehicle M maintenance.
To identify your vehicle rear axle type, see respective construction number recorded in the axle identification plate.
