 For authorized Mercedes­Benz service partners, only the entry in the "Extended VEGA Application" (EVA) system, in the "Current" tab is decisive. An additional test of the affected vehicles in the workshop information system (WIS) or vehicle list is thereby not necessary.

 

Remove/install

 Danger !

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Remove automatic transmission oil pan



 Check the oil pan, magnet and drained oil for metal shavings.

If metal shavings are present in the oil pan, on the magnet or in the oil.



Additionally perform the work starting with operation step 4.

 Always replace the automatic transmission.

 Installation: If metal shavings are present in the oil pan, on the magnet or in the oil, the torque converter must be replaced and the lines from the oil cooler to the automatic transmission must be flushed out.

Detach coolant hoses at radiator (2)



Detach automatic transmission oil lines from cooler (2)

Disengage locks (arrows A) of cooler (2) on front module and push top of cooler (2) carefully toward rear

Disengage locks (3) on both sides of cooler and lift condenser (4) out of upper and lower guides on cooler (2) with lines still connected

 Helper required.

Remove screws/bolts (arrows B)

Take out cooler (2) in upward direction

 Installation: Replace the cooler (2).

Install in the reverse order
