This function description describes a left-hand drive vehicle.
Right-hand drive vehicles are to be observed mirror inverted with regard to the designations of the electric components.
Function requirements, general
No overvoltage or undervoltage
Folding in outside mirror, general
The left outside mirror (M21/4) and right outside mirror (M21/5) can be folded in and out electrically. The left front door control unit (N69/3) has the master function during adjustment and relays the corresponding requests to the right front door control unit (N69/4) via the interior CAN (CAN-B).
On vehicles with code F65 (Automatic folding outside mirror), the left outside mirror and the right outside mirror can be folded in automatically when locking the vehicle. If the vehicle is locked or a front door is opened, the outside mirrors fold out automatically.
The outside mirror fold-in function comprises the following partial functions:
Function sequence for manual folding in/out
Function sequence for automatic folding in and out (with code F65 (Automatically folding outside mirror))
Function sequence for manual folding in/out
The partial function manual fold-in/out comprises the following subfunctions:
Manual folding in function sequence
Manual folding out function sequence
Additional function requirements for manual folding in
Vehicle speed < 47 km/h
Manual folding in function sequence
By actuating the outside mirror fold-in/out switch (S47s6) the left outside mirror and the right outside mirror is folded in.
The left front door control unit reads in the status of the outside mirror fold-in/out switch (S47s6) via the left door LIN (LINB5), directly actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor (M21/4m3) in the left outside mirror and transmits the request "Fold in right outside mirror" to the right front door control unit via the interior CAN. The right front door control unit directly actuates the folding mirror motor (M21/5m3) in the right outside mirror. The actuation duration is t = 5 s.
On model 447.6/7, model 448.7 the instrument cluster control unit transmits the vehicle speed via the interior CAN with the electronic ignition lock control unit interface (EZS) (N73) to the left front door control unit.
On model 447.8, model 448.8 the instrument cluster control unit transmits the vehicle speed via the CAN user interface CAN (CAN-HMI) to the gateway for user interface CAN (N93/4) and from there to the left front door control unit via the interior CAN.
Manual folding out function sequence
By actuating the outside mirror fold-in/out switch the left outside mirror and the right outside mirror is folded in.
The left front door control unit reads in the status of the outside mirror fold-in/out switch () via the left front door LIN (LIN), actuates the power folding mirror motor in the left outside mirror and transmits the request "Fold in right outside mirror" to the right front door control unit via the interior CAN. The right front door control unit then switches on the power folding mirror motor in the right outside mirror. The actuation duration is t = 5 s.
Additional function sequence for automatic folding in and out (with code F65 (Automatically folding outside mirror))
Function in radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) activated
The left front door control unit transmits the corresponding status to the left front door control unit via the interior CAN.
Function sequence for automatic folding in and out (with code F65 (Automatically folding outside mirror))
The partial function automatic fold-in/out comprises the following subfunctions:
Automatic folding in function sequence
Automatic folding out function sequence
Automatic folding in function sequence
The left outside mirror and the right outside mirror can be folded in automatically via the central locking (CL) when locking the vehicle.
The electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) sends the status of the central locking to the left door control unit via the interior CAN. The left front door control unit actuates the power folding mirror in the left outside mirror and sends the request "Fold in right outside mirror" via interior CAN to the right front door control unit. The right front door control unit then actuates the power folding mirror motor in the right outside mirror. The actuation duration is t = 5 s.
The signal flow for locking the vehicle via CL [ZV] is described in detail in the "Theft protection and locking" function description, "Central locking (CL [ZV]), function" subfunction.
Automatic folding out function sequence
When the vehicle is locked with the CL and a front door is opened, both outside mirrors are folded out automatically.
The electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (N73) sends the status of the central locking to the left door control unit via the interior CAN. The left front door central locking actuator (M14/3) senses when the left front door is opened which is sent directly to the left front door control unit. The right front door central locking actuator (M14/4) senses when the right front door is opened, which is sent directly to the left front door control unit via the interior CAN.
The left front door control unit actuates the power folding mirror in the left outside mirror and sends the request "Fold in right outside mirror" via interior CAN to the right front door control unit. The right front door control unit then switches on the power folding mirror motor in the right outside mirror. The actuation duration is t = 5 s.
