In the event of a crash the system operates automatically!

The system is activated manually by pushing the SOS switch (S93/3s1). This can be the case in emergency situations of if an accident is observed. Activation of the emergency call system is shown by the flashing red light emitting diode (LED) in the SOS switch. If there is no answer from the occupants when the emergency center calls the vehicle, a search and rescue mission by the local emergency team is started immediately. If the emergency call system is unable to connect to the emergency call center, or if the subscriber identification module (SIM) card is not authorized, the system automatically calls the police emergency number "911" and attempts to set up a handsfree connection. In such an event, data transfer does not take place using the Short Message Service (SMS).
