Entire function
Basically it is differentiated between the instrument lighting and the headlamp switch-off delay, whereby the same components for illumination of the area surrounding the vehicle are actuated.
The following lamps are actuated:
Left standing and parking lamp (E1e3)
Right standing and parking lamp (E2e3)
Left front fog lamp (E1e4) (up to 31.8.04)
Right front fog lamp (E2e4) (up to 31.8.04)
Left front fog lamp (E5/1) (as of 1.9.04)
Right front fog lamp (E5/2) (as of 1.9.04)
Taillamp and left parking lamp (E3e2)
Right taillamp and parking lamp E4e2)
left license plate lamp (E19/1)
Right license plate lamp (E19/2)
On vehicles and the instrument lighting and headlamp switch-off delay are only activated, when the exterior lamp switch (S1) is in the "Auto" position

Function
The headlamp switch-off delay serves for illuminating the area surrounding the vehicle with parking light, fog lamp, taillamp and license plate lamp.
The time interval for the headlamp switch-off delay can be adjusted in the instrument cluster (A1) in increments of 15 s from 0 s to 60 s
When a door or the trunk lid is opened, the time interval for the headlamp switch-off delay is started. Whenever a door or the trunk lid is opened again, the running time interval is stopped and a new one started. When the last door or the trunk lid is closed, the time interval set in the instrument cluster (A1) is restarted.
If the headlamp switch-off delay is activated, the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) transmits the corresponding signal to the instrument cluster (A1), whereby the warning buzzer (A1h1) of the light and circuit 58d are suppressed. When the standing lamps function is only activated due to the driving lamps in the background of the headlamp switch-off delay, the warning buzzer (A1h1) remains activated.
Interrupting function
By switching circuit 15 on and of, the headlamp switch-off delay is interrupted until the next time a function requirement is fulfilled.
If an alarm of the anti-theft alarm system (ATA) is deployed, the headlamp switch-off delay is also interrupted.
Deactivating function
When the time interval is set to "0 s" in the instrument cluster (A1) the headlamp delayed switch-off feature is deactivated.
