During engine start (when transmitter key (A8/1) is turned into position 3 or in the case of KEYLESS GO automatically at the end of preglowing), start-up glowing is activated in order to stabilize the cold start speed.

The glow output stage (N14/2) is supplied with a signal by the CDI control unit (N3/9) to indicate that the engine is being started, the glow plugs (R9) continue to be supplied with voltage.

Afterglowing is activated when the starter release speed is reached.

If the transmitter key (A8/1) is not turned on into position 3 after the preglow indicator lamp has gone out, glow heating continues for a further 25 seconds or so, irrespective of the coolant temperature (start readiness glowing).
