R4 Spark plug
Location
In the cylinder head, each cylinder has a spark plug located in the center between the engine valves.
Task
The compacted fuel/air mixture is combusted by sparks between the electrodes according to actuation by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/23).
Design
All spark plug characteristics are defined by type symbols provided by the manufacturer (e.g. heat rating, seat shape, thread, width across flats, electrode material, spark position).
Function
The ignition voltage passes from the directly plugged in ignition coils: ignition coils for cylinder 1 (T1/1), ignition coils for cylinder 2 (T1/2), ignition coils for cylinder 3 (T1/3), ignition coils for cylinder 4 (T1/4), ignition coils for cylinder 5 (T1/5) and ignition coils for cylinder 6 (T1/6) to the respective spark plug and causes the arcing in the air gap between the center and ground electrode.
