M16/5 Throttle valve actuator
Location
The throttle valve actuator is located at the front left underneath the intake pipe.
Task
The throttle valve actuator controls (restricts) the fresh air quantity supplied during exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).
P14.20-2224-03
Function
The throttle valve actuator is actuated by the CDI control unit (N3/9) by means of a pulse width modulated signal (PWM) signal and adjusted (closed) according to the throttle valve in the mixing chamber. This causes the amount of fresh air fed to the engine to be reduced (derated).
In a deenergized state, the throttle valve is opened by an integral return spring. If a fault is detected by the throttle valve actuator, the PWM signal is periodically switched to ground. The output driver in the CDI control unit can thus detect the fault.
