The following are some of the functions that are active in idle:

 Fuel supply, used to provide the correct quantity of fuel for the respective operating status

 Pre-injection, to improve the exhaust values and to reduce noise emissions

 Main injection, the die main injection quantity calculated by the CDI control unit (N3/9) is supplied to the individual cylinders

 Idle speed control, taking into account the different variables, the idle speed is kept at a constant

 Quantity regulation; the required injection quantity for idle is calculated and regulated by the CDI control unit while taking account of various influencing variables

 Switch off control leads by "circuit 15 OFF" to standstill of the engine

 Antiboil protection, engine overheating protection

 Smooth running control, engine smooth running guarantee

 Emission control, reduction of exhaust pollutants

 Inlet port shutoff, used to improve combustion

 Glowing, used to assist combustion and improve the exhaust emission values
