Remove/install

 Danger!

Risk of injury caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units.

Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.

Remove front seat (1) on passenger side

Loosen connector block bracket (6)

 Only if the left front WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/11) or the right front WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/12) is removed.

 Remove two bolts (arrow A) and place the connector block bracket (6) outside of the working area.

Unclip electrical line of right front WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/12) or right rear WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/14) out of retaining clamps (arrows B)

 Only if the right front WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/12) or the right rear WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/14) is removed.

 Do not damage electrical line of right front WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/12) or right rear WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/14).

Disconnect electrical connector (5) from WSS control unit (weight sensing system) (N2/13) (arrow C)

Unscrew nut (3) and remove bolts (2)

 The pin (2) may only be installed together with the related sensor.

 Installation: Lightly grease bolt (2) before installing and hold when tightening nut (3).



Remove the left front WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/11), the right front WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/12), the left rear WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/13) or the right rear WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/14) together with the attached bracket (7)

 On no account loosen or remove the bracket (7) from the sensor! This would make the sensor unusable.

Check the gap on the left front WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/11), the right front WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/12), the left rear WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/13) or on the right rear WSS (Weight Sensing System) sensor (B48/14) for contamination; where necessary, clean with a lint free cloth

 The gap may not be contaminated, otherwise proper function is not longer ensured.

 Before cleaning the gap, unclip the dust cap from the sensor using a suitable tool.

Check plastic bearing (9) for wear and replace if necessary

 If needed, remove the circlip (8) and remove the plastic bearing (9) using a suitable tool.

 Installation: Install the new plastic bearing (9) manually and fasten with the circlip (8).

Install in the reverse order

Calibrate left front WSS sensor (weight sensing system) (B48/11), right front WSS sensor (weight sensing system) (B48/12), left rear WSS sensor (weight sensing system) (B48/13) and right rear WSS sensor (weight sensing system) (B48/14) with STAR diagnosis system.
